詩篇 34:13
keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.
就要禁止舌頭不出惡言，嘴唇不說詭詐的話。

以賽亞書 50:4

主耶和華賜我受教者的舌頭，使我知道怎樣用言語扶助疲乏的人。主每早晨提醒，提醒我的耳朵，使我能聽，像受教者一樣。

火缺了柴就必熄滅；無人傳舌，爭競便止息。
好爭競的人煽惑爭端，就如餘火加炭，火上加柴一樣。
傳舌人的言語，如同美食，深入人的心腹。
箴言 18:6

The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives.
愚昧人張嘴啟爭端，開口招鞭打。
愚昧人的口自取敗壞；他的嘴是他生命的網羅。
詩篇 39:1
I said, "I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked."
（大衛的詩，交與伶長耶杜頓。）我曾說：我要謹慎我的言行，免得我舌頭犯罪；惡人在我面前的時候，我要用嚼環勒住我的口。
歌羅西書 4:6
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
你們的言語要常常帶著和氣，好像用鹽調和，就可知道該怎樣回答各人。
