詩篇 51:17
My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
神所要的祭就是憂傷的靈；神啊，憂傷痛悔的心，你必不輕看。
詩篇 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
耶和華靠近傷心的人，拯救靈性痛悔的人。
以賽亞書 66:2
Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?" declares the Lord. "These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.
耶和華說：這一切都是我手所造的，所以就都有了。但我所看顧的，就是虛心（原文作貧窮）痛悔、因我話而戰兢的人。
以賽亞書 57:15

For this is what the high and exalted One says- he who lives forever, whose name is holy: "I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.
I will not accuse them forever, nor will I always be angry, for then they would faint away because of me- the very people I have created.
因為那至高至上、永遠長存（原文作住在永遠）名為聖者的如此說：我住在至高至聖的所在，也與心靈痛悔謙卑的人同居；要使謙卑人的靈甦醒，也使痛悔人的心甦醒。
我必不永遠相爭，也不長久發怒，恐怕我所造的人與靈性都必發昏。
哥林多後書 7:10

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
因為依著神的意思憂愁，就生出沒有後悔的懊悔來。以致得救；但世俗的憂愁是叫人死。
你看，你們依著神的意思憂愁，從此就生出何等的殷勤、自訴、自恨、恐懼、想念、熱心、責罰（或作：自責）。在這一切事上，你們都表明自己是潔淨的。
雅各書 4:9
Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.
你們要愁苦、悲哀、哭泣，將喜笑變作悲哀，歡樂變作愁悶。
雅各書 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
務要在主面前自卑，主就必叫你們升高。
